Alexander Kazulin  Print

Alexander Kazulin was born in Minsk on November 25th 1955, in a family of teachers and Tractor Plant engineers. After graduation from high school he worked at a tractor plant and at the same time, studied at the mechanic-mathematical faculty of the Belarusian State University.

His professional career began with a modest teacher position and reached the height of university rector on the minister level. He has a doctors degree in pedagogical studies. He is quite well known by many Belarusians, especially those who graduated from the BSU. During the presidential elections in 2001 students and teachers ofthe university didn’t support Lukashenko, and that lead to repressions among both afterwards. In 2003 Kazulin was removed from the position of rector under invented accusations, and consequently joined the opposition.

His first political activity is connected to the Party of National Agreement, where he was a board member. Later, in 2004, he became one of the initiators of consolidation of the Social Democratic movement in Belarus. Belarusian Social Democratic party, which was incorporated in April, 2005 elected Alexander Kazulin as it’s chairman. The same year he initiated the creation of the social movement “Will of the people”, and became it’s coordinator.

The United Belarusian Opposition is skeptic about the genuine intentions of Alexander Kazulin, calling him a “Lukashenko project”. However there is no real evidence to prove that. Unfortunately there is no fruitful cooperation between Kasulin and the leader of the united opposition, Milinkevich, as well.

156.618 signatures of the Belarusian citizens were brought to the Belarusian central elections committee for the registration of Kazulin as a candidate for the presidential elections on March 19, 2006.
